The Missouri River is fishing really well right now and there are a lot of different ways to put together a good day. Water temps have come up with the warmer weather, and fish are feeding consistently throughout the river.
Nymphing has been productive, especially with smaller perdigons and other classic attractor nymphs. Fish are holding in the slower flats and longer runs, and once anglers get into them it’s worth slowing down and staying on that water. Getting flies down has still been the biggest factor.
BWOs and midges are still around, and there have been a few march browns showing as well. When the march browns come off well, fish will really key in on them and there can be some good windows of rising fish. Caddis feel close and could start showing any day with the warmer temperatures.
Streamer fishing has also been worthwhile. White patterns have been moving fish, and when that slows down it’s worth switching into more natural rainbow colors.
The Missouri is in a really good place right now. Between the nymphing, dry fly fishing, and streamer bite, there’s a lot going on.
